Welding TechnologySince 2019, Starboard produces all inflatables with laminated rails (edges). In a complex technology, the upper and lower sides are welded together with the rails to form a single unit. Without glue, because glue doesn't last forever. Edges that leak over time are now a thing of the past. Laminated rails are so special because it is technically very complex to weld the round shape of the bow and stern edges. Together with the woven layers of the deck and underwater hull (dropstitch), Starboard hereby sets the benchmark for durable, dimensionally stable and high-quality inflatable SUP boards. Light and stable, but at the same time stiff and responsive was the goal - and it was a long way until we could really implement all claims. From 2020, our drop stitch material on Deluxe Double Chamber and Deluxe Single Chamber is woven rather than knitted, allowing it to expand diagonally only. This means less raw material is needed and expansion is only possible diagonally. The result is a much stiffer board because more pressure can be absorbed. The amount of material wasted is also significantly lower.
